Grove

We are BEYOND excited to welcome the insanely talented, powerhouse of an artist, producer, and vocalist: GROVE to our wee Bonjour. Coming from a place of sensual liberation and political defiance, influenced by the DIY nature and ethos of punk, the catharsis of dance music and the power of Jamaican soundsystem culture. Taking dancehall, bass and hip-hop and turning it into a brand new beast, they are an unstoppable energy with enough bite to turn thought into action.

Grove released their debut EP ‘Queer + Black’ in February 2021; an exploration of identity, both personal and political (‘Fuck Ur Landlord’), a combination of hard hitting bass lines, forceful and tender lyrics and beats beamed in from the club. To date, their sound has been publicly championed by Mary Anne Hobbs, Steve Lamacq, Jamz Supernova and Jack Saunders.

After a year of slaying huge International festival stages and supporting the likes of Bob Vylan, Peaches, BABii & Moonchild Sanelly, Grove's first single of 2023, 'BIG BOOTS' is a timely riposte to the monarchy, imperialism and systemic racism choking the streets of the UK.

Emerging from DIY & community spaces working closely alongside their music collaborator EJ:AKIN. We hope you are as excited as us Bonjour is the Glasgow stop of their headline tour P*W*R PL*Y this November.

(Film Screening) CINEASTRA PRESENTS: Time, Again: Future/ Space Blankets

This event is presented as a collaboration between curators Milo Clenshaw and Maria Wrang-Rasmussen. Time, Again is a series of three screenings exploring the past, present and future of queer representation on screen, while Space Blankets is a strand of three screenings featuring sci-fi and otherworldly narratives in navigating trans and queer life.

(Tending) (To) (Ta), a feature film by artist filmmaker April Lin 林森 will be screened at Bonjour and followed by a newly-commissioned performance by the artist.

April Lin 林森 | UK 2021 | 66m

(Tending) (to) (Ta) is a narrative-led, speculative fiction film following an exchange of internal letters between two protagonists who imagine one another across parallel dimensions. Each communicating to an envisioned other, who exists as a possibility beyond their self-perceived boundaries of reality, these two beings meet in a shared imagination.

Content warning: This film includes discussions of poor mental health.
